Dia-sonic
Some pictures of the wonderful Noémie Cattez and Tommy Cattin in my piece Dia-sonic, which was performed at the Bonnie Bird Theatre, Laban, 2015.
I am fascinated by movement and sound and in this piece I set out to explore the sounds made by the dancers in contact with the floor and space. These sounds were recorded to create a sound score which was played alongside the real time movement of the dancers. The result was at times a resonance and at times a dissonance between what you see and what you hear.
The sound brings out the dancer’s physicality, enhancing the proximity between the dancer and viewer, merging dancer and room or dancer and dancer. I also worked with relocating certain 'sound-making' actions in space or replacing them with a different body parts, resulting in the body being amplified.
